Jim and Betty Palmer founded the Silver Serenaders of Texas Senior Adult Choir in 1981 at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Dallas. At the time the choir was known as the Sunset Serenaders. In 1996, the present name was adopted, the organization was incorporated, and a Board of Directors from the community and the choir was installed.
James F. Palmer is the Artistic Director for the Silver Serenaders. He is a graduate of Baylor University and a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jim's co-director is his wife Betty Palmer who also graduated from Baylor University. In 1993, Jim and Betty Palmer were presented the Award of Excellence for service to senior adults by Baylor University. They are now in their 30th season with The Silver Serenaders of Texas.
In 1996, the choir incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the State of Texas, and in 1997 was designated by the Internal Service as a 501(c)(3) corporation. At this point, the choir removed itself from its long association with Cliff Temple Baptist Church and became an interdenominational community choir with corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The choir rehearses at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. Although our choir has no formal affiliation with this wonderful church, we do have a covenant relationship of mutual support with the church, and count them among our most supportive friends.
The Silver Serenaders in its past twenty-nine seasons has performed throughout the United States, including Hawaii, as well as overseas in Israel. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the Distinquished Choral Concert Series, as well as at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Numerous collegiate venues have included Baylor University, Sul Ross University, Dallas Baptist University, Hardin Simmons University, East Texas Baptist University, and Houston Baptist University. Countless churches have been privileged to hear America's premier Senior Adult Choir over the years.
Now in its 30th season, the Silver Serenaders continues to bring music with a message to audiences everywhere!
