James F. and Betty Palmer founded the Silver Serenaders of Texas Senior Adult Choir in 1981 at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Dallas. At the time the choir was known as the Sunset Serenaders. In 1996, the present name was adopted, the organization was incorporated, and a Board of Directors from the community and the choir was installed.
Jim is a graduate of Baylor University as well as a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Betty also graduated from Baylor University. In 1993, Jim and Betty Palmer were presented the Award of Excellence for service to senior adults by Baylor University. They led the Silver Serenaders of Texas for over 30 years.
In its long history, the Silver Serenaders has performed throughout the United States, including Hawaii, as well as overseas in Israel. The choir has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the Distinquished Choral Concert Series, as well as at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. Numerous collegiate venues have included Baylor University, Sul Ross University, Dallas Baptist University, Hardin Simmons University, East Texas Baptist University, and Houston Baptist University. Countless churches have been privileged to hear America's premier Senior Adult Choir over the years.
For over 30 years the Silver Serenaders has continued to bring music with a message to audiences everywhere!

A new adjunct ensemble has been formed within the Silver Serenaders Choir called the Silver Serenader Chorale.
This new group adds a much-needed extension to our ministry, allowing us to perform in smaller venues than before, such as retirement centers, nursing homes and small clubs.

Following its incorporation as a non-profit corporation in the State of Texas, the Silver Serenaders of Texas was designated in 1997 by the Internal Service as a 501(c)(3) corporation. At this point, the choir removed itself from its long association with Cliff Temple Baptist Church and became an interdenominational community choir with corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The choir rehearses at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Cedar Hill, Texas. Although the choir has no formal affiliation with this wonderful church, it does have a covenant relationship of mutual support with the church, and counts it as a most supportive friend.
When Jim Palmer retired from the position of Artistic Director in 2011, Chett Haynes was appointed Artistic Director effective October 1.
Chett is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as music pastor in various posts in Dallas County for more than 25 years before becoming the Minister of Music and Worship at First Baptist Church Waxahachie in 2008.
Chett Haynes is an accomplished soloist and musical director, and will lead the Silver Serenaders on to even greater achievements in the future.
